HOPE - TAE KWON DO

Introduction

Hope Tae Kwon Do was started on July 7th,  2002.  This has been an inspiring year with membership growing to over 30 people for the Wednesday and Sunday sessions.  This is truly an example of our church demonstrating the advantages of a community outreach program.  Hope Tae Kwon Do is a registered School with the International Tae Kwon Do Federation.

Classes are taught by Mr. Rich Mullen, a Sixth Degree Black Belt - International Instructor - He has been studying the Chan Hun style of Tae Kwon Do since 1984.  The assistant instructor is Ms. Brandi Barndt, also a Sixth Degree Black Belt and the Northampton Area Middle School Health Teacher.

Hope Tae Kwon Do practices the Chan Hun style of Tae Kwon Do developed by General Choi Hong Hi.  We are members of the United Tae Kwon Do Federation, an organization of schools which all practice the exact same style we study, which gives us access to local tournaments and other special seminars and events.

We strictly follow the Tae Kwon Do styled are founded by General Choi Hong Hi.  We are proud of our exciting, educational and well-structured family atmosphere.

The Art

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art whose name means "the way of the hand and foot."  True to its name, Tae Kwon Do includes many kicking and striking techniques.  Practicing Tae Kwon Do has many benefits to both children and adults including:

  • Increased Strength and Flexibility
  • Better Balance and coordination
  • Improved Concentration and Self Confidence
  • Self-Defense Training

    Mission Statement

Tae Kwon Do has something to offer every student regardless of aptitude or ability.  We strive to provide an energetic, supportive, and disciplined learning environment where goals are repeatedly set and achieved.  Success is measured in personal pride and accomplishment, not in tournament victories.  In addition to the physical goals we help each student achieve, we will also set moral benchmarks teaching the five tenets of Tae Kwon Do:

  • Courtesy
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance
  • Self-Control
  • Indomitable Spirit

The Fees for the first student in a family is $25 per month.
The second family member is $10 per month.
Additional family members are also $10 per month.

All students, or their guardian will be required to sign a liability waiver form.

Hope Tae Kwon Do held it's second successful tournament in August of 2005.  We had nearly 100 participants from all over Eastern Pennsylvania.  The Tournament was very sucessful and we were asked to have another event this year.
